Position Summary
This is a full-time position that focuses on the employee experience & systems in conjunction with the HR team at Mt Bachelor. The HR Specialist assists with administrative and employment-related tasks, leads the resort’s payroll efforts, provides support and coaching to employees and supervisors in employment issues, and works closely with HR leadership to foster an employee-oriented, high-performance culture emphasizing engagement, quality performance, and ongoing development. The HR Specialist may operate as a back-up to other HR functions as needed.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

- Responds efficiently and thoughtfully to employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures, programs, or other issues and promotes understanding to come to a resolution.
- Provides support, coaching, and guidance to employees and supervisors on employee relations issues.
- Remains professional, thoughtful, and focused on solutions when an employee or supervisor is frustrated; independently resolves conflicts before they escalate or works with HR leadership when needed to solve an issue.
- In conjunction with HR leadership, reviews and updates the employee handbook annually or as needed.
- Prepare bi-weekly payroll using Workday HRIS
- Ensure all timecards are signed-off on in a timely fashion
- Prepare necessary tips and housing uploads for payroll processing on a bi-weekly basis
- Coordinate processing off-cycle, special, bonus, stop pay/reissue check requests with POWDR
- Review and assist with solving problems identified on various payroll and timekeeping reports including but not limited to: missing punches, sign off reports, hours worked, overtime pay, sick pay and other paid time off, and any other payroll or personnel related reporting.
- Assists with managing annual/seasonal performance evaluations. Reviews employee performance and development records and mines data to identify trends, then creates summaries and recommendations for HR leadership.
- Supports Mt Bachelor’s employee service outlet, The Stash, through peak times and additionally as needed.
- Assists with planning and managing company-sponsored employee events.
- Approaches employee engagement with a continuous improvement mindset and makes recommendations to HR leadership.
- Participates in company-wide HR initiatives and long-term HR planning.
- Lead the administration of the resort’s winter and summer housing initiatives
- Facilitate, assist, and lead manager and employee training related to HR systems or guidance
- Effectively and efficiently fulfill all reporting and compliance requirements as needed.
- Assists with recruiting throughout the year as needed and supports seasonal hiring.
- Perform various types of data entry with strong attention to detail.
- Assist with department transfers and separations as needed.
- Ensure proper electronic or manual filing of documentation.
- May assist with Workers’ Compensation claims and benefit-related management tasks.
- Maintain payroll files, audit payroll records, correct errors, and maintain the accuracy of time keeping system on a regular basis. Review all timecards to ensure time has been approved by management before processing payroll
- Answer questions from employees and leadership related to pay and benefits deductions and resolve any issues. Troubleshoots employee problems with errors in time and labor reporting.
- Maintain garnishments and withholdings, employment verifications, and other compliance documents.
- Track employee Sick, PTO, and Holiday time. Make corrections to accruals as needed.
- Process unemployment claims
- During peak guest times, all HR staff may support Guest Services, Food and Beverage, and/or other departments.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Job Scope
This position primarily operates with established parameters but assists greatly with the day-to-day functionality of the Human Resources office, including the establishment of new guidelines, processes, and policies. The position is accountable for consistency throughout the Human Resources office regarding mandatory practices, company policies, and legal related issues.

Potential daily interactions with employees from all departments. Daily interactions with individuals from various agencies and organizations. Potential daily interactions with applicants and potential job seekers.
Specific Job Skills
- License/Certifications: SHRM or PHR certification preferred
- Technical: Advanced base of computer operation skills with the foundation to learn new programs. In-depth understanding of Microsoft Office, with advanced use of Excel. Depth of knowledge of HRIS (ADP) programs a plus.
- Additional: Ski area experience, recruiting experience. Excellent customer service skills. Strong communication and public speaking skills are paramount, the ability to present in front of large groups with impact and influence.
Education/Related Experience
- Minimum Education Required: College degree or relevant courses preferred, may substitute experience or professional certification.
- Minimum Time in Related Position(s): Minimum of three years’ experience in Human Resources or related field required. Employee relations experience preferred.
