Job Title: Program Lead
Hours: ~15 hours/month. Regular weekend and evenings required. Opportunity to increase
hours if/when necessary.
Reports to: Director of Operations & Programming
Compensation: $20/hr
Position Summary
The Program Lead serves as an educator and event coordinator for the Children’s Museum of
Central Oregon. This position focuses on delivering hands-on STEAM play and/or curriculum for
kids preK to 5
th grade and their families in a variety of settings: public events, museum pop-ups,
schools, libraries, etc. They will work closely with the Director of Operations and Programming
to build community relationships through educational programming and outreach, starting with
CMCO’s Mobile Museum. This position includes organizing and working with museum
volunteers and community organizers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Museum Programming (90%)
● Deliver and assist in developing engaging, educational, hands-on STEAM experiences
in the form of small exhibits and facilitated programming for ages preK-5th grade and
their families around Central Oregon
● Maintain a positive and friendly demeanor while engaging with community members at
events, ensuring a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all attendees
● Establish practices and procedures for maintaining and organizing programming
supplies between events and ensuring they are accessible to all staff and volunteers
● Deliver program evaluation practices to ensure a quality experience for all visitors
● Coordinate with CMCO programming volunteers to plan and execute public events
Collaborative Program Management (10%)
● Collaborate with Director to establish monthly and annual programming goals
● Assist Director with strategizing and implementing mobile museum programming
● Keep Director updated on programming needs and status
● Supply Director with programming data for grant submissions
● Manage and support volunteers at events
● Ensure ongoing program quality and integrate quality improvement into programming
operations
● Collaborate with Director to establish programming schedule of events
● Represent CMCO at community events
Qualifications
Required
● Minimum 3 years working in early childhood/elementary education or related setting
● Experience managing and/or working with volunteers
● Passion for lifelong learning and a curiosity about a wide range of STEAM topics as well
as the natural history and uniqueness of Central Oregon
● Self-starter, proactive, and ability to work independently as well as collaborate with other
educators and community partners
● Adept and comfortable at communicating with a wide range of audiences, including the
public, community stakeholders, and volunteers
● Comfortable moving around and talking with the public for several hours at a time
● Be able to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds
● Reliable transportation to transport small museum exhibits and materials to events
and/or ability to drive larger museum vehicle
● Availability to set up, attend, and takedown events on evenings and weekends
● Maintain an organized and clean storage unit
● Background check will be conducted prior to employment
Preferred
● Bachelor’s degree in education or any STEAM-related field
● Familiarity with Universal Design Principles and/or trained in DEAI
● Practical experience with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) as well as
math and art standards
● Customer service experience
● Bilingual/fluency in Spanish and English
